I'm very pleased to see the NSA has launched their Apprenticeship Training Service.  This will enable small organisations to look at employing apprentices for short periods.  Until now employers were expected to commit to employing apprentices continuously for 2 years.  Please click here for their article.

Sebastian Barnes - Director

Sebastian Barnes

Sebastian established MOSC in April 2007, in its original form the Midlands Training Consortium.

Sebastian has worked in a variety of offstage technical roles in theatre since 1972, including stage, lighting, flying, props, construction, stage engineering, projection, exhibition, and management.  He left the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham in 2008, after 17 years as Technical & Building Services Manager, at the start of MOSC.

As a founder member, he arranged the first meeting of individuals brought together in the consultation on the National Skills Academy for Backstage & Offstage Skills.  He has chaired this group since its beginning and is now a MOSC director, leading development, seeking funding, promoting member recruitment and developing Creative Apprenticeships in the Midlands.

He has been a union member since the 1970's and a member of the BECTU National Training Committee since its early years.  He has created and delivered various technical courses and local skills assessments since 1998 and was an active participant in the Skillscene qualification structure project.  Currently an Ambassador for the NSA, and a BECTU Union Learning Organiser for the Midlands, Sebastian continues to work to develop training and policy for our sector.
